MAVAMBO – Women Shaping the Future
In the heart of Zimbabwe, a group of determined women came together with one shared dream: to create a better future for themselves, their children, and their community.
They called their initiative MAVAMBO – a word that means “new beginning.”
What started as a small group of mothers has grown into a vibrant women’s cooperative. Their mission is simple yet powerful: to gain economic independence, to live self-reliance, and to build skills in management, organization, and marketing.
From the very beginning, Bongai Shamwari Trust has walked alongside MAVAMBO – providing start-up funding, mentoring, and everyday support. Together, they’ve built something extraordinary: a community of women who face the challenges of life in Zimbabwe with courage, creativity, and unity – step by step shaping a sustainable future.
From Small Ideas to Big Impact
Out of countless small ideas grew a colorful world of products – each one a story of innovation and perseverance.
From oyster mushroom cultivation to homemade peanut butter, pasta, and dried herbs, the women’s creativity knows no bounds.
One project, in particular, has become a local success story: MEAT MA SAUSAGE – delicious, handcrafted sausages made from regional ingredients and inspired by adapted German recipes.
Today, this business is MAVAMBO’s strongest source of income. It creates jobs, secures steady earnings, and proves that when women take initiative and support each other, they can transform their communities.
Supporting women in Zimbabwe means more than providing opportunities – it means unlocking potential.
In a society where women have often faced limited access to education, resources, and decision-making, empowerment becomes a force of change.
By gaining independence, women strengthen not only themselves but also their families, their communities, and their country.
Empowerment is justice. It is also a smart investment in the future – one that nurtures growth, equality, and hope for generations to come.
The women of MAVAMBO live by a simple yet profound principle:
